Tusker’s rise to the top of Kenya’s strongest brands list this year reflects more than just a surge in value — it highlights the steady recovery of the country’s hospitality sector and changing consumer trends.

The brand, which is the flagship of Kenya Breweries Limited, has seen its value increase by 67 per cent to Sh9.6 billion, according to the latest 2025 report from Brand Finance.

The London-based consultancy ranked Tusker as Kenya’s strongest brand, up from fifth place last year, and awarded it a Brand Strength Index score of 97.1 out of 100.

he beer also received full marks — 10 out of 10 — on familiarity, consideration, and reputation among Kenyan consumers.

Brand Finance attributed this achievement in part to the reopening of bars, restaurants, and hotels, along with a rebound in consumer spending.

“The strong revenue growth, attributed to successful pricing strategies and commercial activities implemented by East African Breweries PLC, (EABL). In addition, Kenya’s growing economy and increasing urbanisation have boosted consumer spending, further driving demand for branded alcoholic drinks like Tusker,” the report noted.

Speaking on what this recognition means for the brand, Tusker Marketing Manager Christine Kariuki underlined the link between Tusker’s success and Kenya’s resilient spirit.

"For over a century, Tusker has remained synonymous with Kenya. Standing tall with its people. The unrelenting spirit of resilience, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and national pride of Kenyans remains at the core of Tusker," Kariuki stated.

"This recognition underpins the brand’s ethos: to be more than just a beer, but an emblem of Kenyans’ connections; something that is paramount to what we do. It is a recognition that is not only meaningful to us at KBL but also one that speaks to the everyday moments in which consumers choose Tusker to raise a toast, celebrate and spread cheer."

Kariuki went on to acknowledge those who have played a part in this journey.

"This recognition is for the amazing team behind Tusker; from the hardworking team that brews, markets and delivers Tusker to our trade customers and partners as well as our consumers across the country, and the generations of Kenyans who see Tusker not just as a beer, but an iconic brand that exemplifies the resilient Kenyan spirit," she added.

"The success of the brand today is built on the foundation laid by those before us. We are proud to stand on the shoulders of giants."

Tusker’s growth comes at a time when the hospitality industry is regaining its footing after years of uncertainty, with many seeing the brand’s success as a positive sign for the broader sector’s recovery and stability.
