Kenya's top actors and former Papa Shirandula show cast on Sunday came together to celebrate the life and legacy of the late actor Charles Bukeko alias Papa Shirandula.

The stars met at the Pride Azure hotel in Nairobi, as they marked one year since the legendary actor passed away after contracting COVID-19.

In the event, notable stars such as Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, Kazungu Matano alias Otoyo Sibuor, Jacqueline Nayaminde aka Wilbroda, Jackie Vike alias Awinja, Kenneth Githoya alias Njoro, Juma Anderson, Shix Kapienga among other colleagues.

At the event, the entertainers narrated the pleasant moments they shared with Shirandula and how they were saddened by his abrupt passing and we’re not allowed to mourn him following the government's COVID-19 containment protocols.

Awinja rocked in at the event with a cute jacket imprinted with a caricature of the actor on her back.

 “A day like today 18th of July we lost our beloved Charles Bukeko AKA Papa Shirandula and here we are today to celebrate him. I’ve had anxiety this whole week just thinking about our event today, but as they say, time heals,” she said.

The fallen star’s on-stage wife Wilbroda also recalled Papa revealing he stood in different parts and pushed their careers into higher steps.

“I remember and celebrate him for many things. He mentored so many of us. And he loved his work, he was dedicated. We were planning very many things, but that didn’t come to pass.”

Wilbroda also narrated how she was excited after 16 years of struggling to get noticed at the Kenya National Theatre before Papa recommended her.

“Life will never be the same. We were working on very many things but he left suddenly and things slowed down. Had he been here, we would have several shows on TV. We will try and work on them to make him happy.”

During the commemoration, Papa’s wife Beatrice Andega broke down while reminiscing about the good times she spent with her husband.

She was also moved into tears after Jalang’o, Captain Otoyo, and Njoro promised to pay school fees for the late’s youngest daughter Sherry Owendi who is admitted at the Moi Educational Center and is in grade five.

“I will give you a cheque to cater for her entire primary school at Moi Educational Centre and even when she joins form one. Never worry about her education because if Papa was alive, he would have catered for that in a good school,” said Jalang'o.

Papa's widow could not hold the joy she had as she appreciated the actor's kindheartedness.

“When you see mountains you wonder how will I go over them. When you have problems, you wonder how you will solve them, but I thank God because he is a God of solutions. What Jalang’o has done has really blessed my heart. It is one week I was thinking of school fees, God has made a solution,” she said.
