Police in Nigeria have launched an investigation after the son of popular Nigerian star David Adedeji popularly known by his moniker Davido was confirmed to have died in a pool accident on Tuesday.

Ifeanyi Adeleke is reported to have drowned in a swimming pool at his parents’ palatial home in the country's capital Lagos.

News about the death of three-year-old boy has been trending globally across social media platforms and mainstream media since reports of the death started circulating.


Nigerian Police spokesperson Benjamin Hudeyin said confirmed the incident and said the domestic staff members at Davido’s home called police on Monday at around 21:00 GMT (00:00 local time) to report the incident.

All eight members of staff at Davido’s home have been invited for questioning by police over the tragic incident.


Hudeyin said the police are reviewing CCTV cameras to get any additional information that may help them demystify the circumstances under which the minor lost his life.

The police spokesperson also said Ifeanyi’s body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations.

"We are reviewing the CCTV cameras to get additional information about the circumstances of his death," Hudeyin said.

"His body has been deposited in the morgue. We are in touch with his parents. In fact, they were with us last night."


Since the passing of Ifeanyi who turned three just recently, the online community has condoled with Davido and his fiancée Chioma Rowland through condolence messages through social media.

Ifeanyi was the singer's only son and was his third child.

However, Davido and Chioma are yet to issue an official statement regarding their son's demise.
