The Italian government has finally granted the Senegalese-born, Italian-based world's most popular TikTok sensation Khaby Lame Italian citizenship.

Khaby, who has lived in Italy since his family moved to the country when he was only a year old, received his citizenship during a ceremony in his hometown of Chivasso on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old newly Italian citizen expressed his joy at receiving citizenship and took an oath during the ceremony.

“I swear to be faithful to the Republic and to observe the Constitution and the state’s laws,” Khaby declared.

The TikTok sensation, whose real name is Khabane Serigne Lame, confessed that he felt Italian even before being granted the country’s citizenship and added he felt a great responsibility for the oath he took.

"I felt Italian even before today because I've always lived here. I feel a great sense of responsibility for the oath I took. These are not just words."

Khaby came into the limelight in 2020 after his TikTok videos on life hacks went viral and has since gained over 148.4 million followers on the platform.

He began posting videos on his TikTok page in March 2020 after losing his job in a factory in northern Italy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After his mime videos propelled him to international fame, Khaby has signed lucrative sponsorships and endorsement deals, including one with International brand BOSS.
