Absa Bank Kenya has once again earned the prestigious title of Africa’s top employer, a recognition it has now held for four consecutive years, affirming its position as a leading employer in the financial sector.

This accolade, awarded by the renowned Top Employer Institute, extends beyond Kenya to encompass five other African markets: South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Botswana, and, for the first time, Mauritius.

Absa's continued success in maintaining this certification highlights its unwavering commitment to advancing human capital practices and setting new standards in the industry.

Abdi Mohamed, Managing Director and CEO of Absa Bank Kenya, reflected on the significance of the recognition, noting that it reinforces the bank's dedication to fostering a talented, diverse, and future-ready workforce.

“By investing in our people and fostering a culture of belonging, well-being, and excellence, we continue to enhance the employee experience and strengthen our employer brand. Absa has also taken deliberate steps to enhance its work environment by strengthening psychological safety, diversity, and inclusion across its various business units,” Mohamed said.

"We continue to drive holistic employee well-being through various initiatives and to make essential services more accessible to support mental, physical, and financial wellness of all our employees."

The certification comes in recognition of Absa Bank Kenya’s outstanding performance in various key areas, including leadership, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, and employee listening.

The bank recorded notable improvements in these domains, with increases of 20 per cent in leadership, 17.05 per cent in sustainability, and 31.72 per cent in employee listening, all surpassing industry benchmarks.

Mumbi Kahindo, Chief People Officer at Absa Bank Kenya, expressed that the certification marks a key milestone in the bank’s ongoing journey.

“This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a workplace where excellence thrives and our Human Capital practices set the standard for the industry. It is also a testament to the dedication of our entire team and reaffirms Absa's position as a leading employer of choice in the financial sector,” Kahindo said.

Mohamed concluded by emphasising the broader impact of the certification: “The certification highlights our commitment to Kenya and recognises the power we possess as a financial institution to nurture talent and propel the future forward by delivering impact where it matters most - our people.”

The Top Employer Institute, a globally recognised authority on human capital practices, awards companies that excel in attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining talent, further solidifying Absa's standing as a leader in employee well-being and high-performance culture.
