Parents and guardians have until the end of February to ensure their school-going children are registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), following a directive from the Ministry of Education as part of a nationwide push to ensure universal healthcare access.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, in a letter to County and Sub-County Directors of Education, stressed that the registration aligns with the constitutional right to healthcare for all Kenyans.
He called on school administrators to actively communicate the requirement to parents and assist in facilitating the process.
“The Act provides that every Kenyan, including children shall register on SHA. In this regard, parents/guardians of school going children are required to register them on Social Health Authority through URL afyangu.go.ke or by dialing (*147#) and following the instructions,” Kipsang said in the letter.
The Ministry has tasked schools with ensuring compliance, urging them to swiftly spread awareness and support parents in meeting the deadline.
