Controversial car dealer Joseph Kairu Wambui alias Khalif Kairo was on Monday arraigned at Milimani Law Courts and charged with defrauding two clients out of a total of Sh5 million.
According to documents presented before the court, Kairo swindled Jeff Kyule Munane of Sh2.1 million on diverse dates from July 10 - 29, 2024, while at Westlands in Nairobi.
Kairo's firm, Kai & Karo Limited is reported to have received Sh2,145,150 undertaking to facilitate the importation of a Honda Vezel Hybrid from Japan, which it failed to deliver.
In a separate instance, he is accused of obtaining Sh2.9 million from Dona Ayalo Okoth in July 2024 to import a Subaru Outback, which his company is yet to be delivered up to date.
Kairo’s application for release on bail was objected to by the prosecution led by Joyce Olajo, who termed him a flight risk and that his release would jeopardize the judicial process.

The prosecution informd the court that the accused had procured an air ticket on January 10, 2025, just a day before his arrest and was planning to fly to New York, USA on January 12, 2025.
But Kairo, through his lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari, opposed the application to deny him bail saying he has been cooperative since complaints were lodged against him.
The law court was told that the vocal used-car dealer and social media commentator was arrested by DCI detectives and detained on January 11, 2025 ahead of his arraignment.
Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina is set to rule on Kairo’s bail application on Tuesday at 2pm.
