Safaricom has significantly upgraded its internet speed offerings for both home and business customers as the entry into Kenya by US billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink threatens its customer base and profits.
The telco says its latest move is aimed at meeting the growing demand for faster and more reliable internet connectivity in the country even as it is widely viewed as a response to Starlink's onslaught on its Kenyan base and the potential it has to affect Safaricom's bottom line.
Enhanced Home Fibre Plans
Safaricom has introduced a new ultra-fast 1000 Mbps (Gigabit per second) Platinum plan for its Home Fibre service.

Additionally, all existing Home Fibre customers will automatically benefit from increased speeds.
The company has also launched the Family Share plan, which combines mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into a single plan, making it ideal for households.

• Bronze: 15 Mbps (from 10 Mbps) - Sh2,999
• Silver: 30 Mbps (from 20 Mbps) - Sh4,100
• Gold: 80 Mbps (from 40 Mbps) - Sh6,299
• Diamond: 500 Mbps (from 100 Mbps) - Sh12,499
• Platinum (NEW): 1000 Mbps - Sh20,000
Revamped Business Fibre Plans
For businesses, Safaricom has revamped its Business Fibre plans, offering increased speeds of up to 1 Gbps for Medium and Large Enterprises.
The company has also introduced new shared business plans that cater to the specific needs of Micro and Small Enterprises.
These plans include features such as mobile backup data, closed user group voice plans, and free email and website domains for new customers.

To support the growing demand for internet services, Safaricom has increased its Fibre footprint by over 3,000 kilometres in the past year.
This expansion has enabled the company to connect over 110,000 new customers to its fast and reliable internet service.
