Equity Group Holdings Plc (EGH) announced the retirement of Mary Wangari Wamae, a highly respected figure in the Kenyan banking industry, effective June 28th, 2024.

"The Board of Directors of Equity Group Holdings Plc (the Companyl announces the retirement of Mrs. Mary Wangari Wamae as a director of the Company, with effect from 28 June 2024," EGH announced.

Wamae's departure marks the culmination of a distinguished twenty-year career with EGH.

Starting in 2004 as Head of Legal, she steadily rose through the ranks, holding positions such as Company Secretary, Head of Investor Relations, and Director of Strategy.

In 2017, she became the first-ever Group Executive Director, overseeing Equity Group's subsidiaries across the region. This new role also saw her join the Board of Directors for both EGH and its subsidiaries.

Wamae's dedication and leadership have been widely recognized. She is the recipient of the prestigious 2021 Angaza Award: Women to Watch in Banking & Finance and the overall winner of the 2021 Women on Board Award by the Women on Boards Network (WOBN).

These accolades highlight her commitment to purpose, innovation, and social impact initiatives. Further recognition came in 2023 with the Private Sector Lawyer of the Year award from the Nairobi Legal Awards, acknowledging her 33 years of service as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

Most recently, she received a Certification in Women in Leadership from the University of Oxford.
