Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall encompassing 116,020 vehicles in the United States following concerns over potential fire hazards arising from inadequately secured ground cable connections, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall spans various models from 2019 to 2024, including SUVs produced under Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach.

The NHTSA documents reveal that the issue stems from a ground system located beneath the front passenger seat, where a loose connection could lead to overheating, consequently posing a fire risk.

"In combination with the high electrical currents potentially flowing through this connection, the temperature in this area might increase," stated the NHTSA report, emphasizing the potential severity of the situation.

To address the issue, Mercedes-Benz dealers will conduct inspections and tighten the ground connections as necessary, all at no cost to the owners.

It's noteworthy that vehicles from the same model years but outside of the recall range are already confirmed to meet production specifications.

Owners can expect notification from dealers starting March 22, with official recall letters set to be dispatched by May 14.
