The Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) has taken a significant stride in enhancing its operational efficiency and bolstering the nation's energy infrastructure. 

Jet A-1 fuel testing will now be conducted across all KPC laboratories following the recent certification of facilities in Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, and Kisumu by the International Standard Organization (ISO).

This milestone, marking the company's 2nd re-accreditation of the ISO 17025:2017 standard, holds promise for reducing turnaround time and ensuring the reliability of jet fuel supply in Kenya.

During the certification handover ceremony, Joe Sang, the Managing Director of KPC, emphasized the transformative impact of this expansion.

"We can now complete Jet A-1 fuel testing in 6 hours, down from the previous 24 hours required when tests were limited to the Nairobi laboratory," he stated.

This advancement not only promises minimal disruption for local and international flights but also underscores Kenya's growing importance as a key transport hub in the region.

Furthermore, certifying all seven laboratories to test jet A-1 fuel is expected to streamline operations and enhance cost-efficiency.

Sang pointed out that this move would save on sample transportation costs and eliminate typical risks of delays and losses, thereby ensuring a more reliable supply chain for jet fuel in the country.

In addition to benefiting KPC's operations, the re-accreditation enables the corporation's laboratories to offer testing services to third-party entities, including Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

Sang highlighted the convenience this brings to customers, as they now have access to competent and accredited facilities closer to their locations, reducing the need for travel to the Nairobi lab.

The accreditation certificate, presented by Martin Chesire, the CEO of Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS), signifies a rigorous evaluation process.

Chesire underscored the meticulous scrutiny of KPC's laboratory facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and data management practices to ensure compliance with the stringent requirements of the ISO standard.

"The accreditation of all seven of KPC’s Laboratories makes KPC the largest multi-site accredited Laboratory in Eastern Africa," Chesire remarked.

He emphasized the importance of consistency across all labs, ensuring that samples tested yield consistent results regardless of the testing facility.

This globally recognized ISO 17025:2017 certification not only enhances KPC’s laboratory practice capabilities but also reinforces the corporation's commitment to maintaining the highest standards in laboratory testing.

By minimizing the chances of inaccurate results and mitigating operational risks, KPC continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Kenya's energy sector and positioning the nation as a key player on the international stage.
