President William Ruto has reiterated that his administration will proceed with the Affordable Housing Program even as the project and its Housing Levy financial feeder is facing court challenges and opposition from a large section of Kenyans.

According to President Ruto, halting the construction of the hundreds of affordable housing units across Kenya will render thousands of young people working in the projects jobless.

The Head of State was speaking when he launched the construction of the Nanyuki Affordable Housing Project in Laikipia East Constituency on Wednesday morning.

The housing project is situated on a 2.5-acres parcel of land and will see a total of 200 units constructed including studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.

The affordable housing project in Nanyuki will see the developer work with the National Construction Authority (NCA), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and TVETs.

The President also revealed that Jua Kali artisans will be engaged by the developer for the fabrication of steel casement doors and windows to be used during the construction.

The Department of Housing has told Swala Nyeti recently launched Affordable Housing Projects will create up to 6,000 direct jobs for youth and women, and 4,000 others indirectly.

The Kenya Kwanza Government has started the construction of 2,000 housing units across Kenya as part of Ruto’s pledge to deliver decent and affordable housing for all Kenyans.

Ruto previously unveiled the Pioneer Affordable Housing project in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, which is set to deliver 1,506 housing units on a 13-acres piece of land.

The construction of the 18 blocks of apartments is set to create 1,500 jobs opportunities.

Similarly, the Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project in Soy Constituency, Uasin Gishu County will deliver 220 housing Units and provide 500 jobs directly and 2,000 others indirectly.

The housing units will be composed of a total of 60 studio units, 40 one-bedroom units, 100 two-bedroom units and 20 three-bedroom units on a 3.2-acres parcel of land.
