Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has appealed to Kenyans to travel more domestically to help revamp the local tourism industry and boost the local communities and economies.
Speaking during the domestic activation drive at Sigona Golf Club, KTB Chairperson Francis Gichaba asked Kenyans to travel and experience the beauty and diversity Kenya offers.
This comes as KTB’s “You Deserve A Holiday” campaign celebrated selling 108,963 bed nights to date and generating revenue of Sh1,089,336,000 since it was launched in 2022.
Gichaba noted that the country still has a lot of potential to be explored by Kenyans.
“This is indeed a transformative phenomenon and speaks of the potential for further growth. We are creating new destinations through the 'You Deserve A Holiday' campaign as we encourage Kenyans to explore their own backyard,” said Gichaba.

He added, “We want Kenyans to travel and experience the beauty and diversity of our country. By doing so, we not only contribute to the growth of the tourism industry but also sustain the food chain and ensure the economic sustainability of the hotel industry.”
Since its launch, the “You Deserve A Holiday” campaign has collaborated with more than 20 stakeholders in the tourism industry among them tour operators, airlines, and hoteliers.
The campaign seeks to promote sustainable domestic tourism and create demand through joint marketing initiatives, such as golf tour series, mall activations and corporate visits.
The partnerships have seen tourism industry players design widespread travel packages that offer seamless experiences for domestic travellers in various cities and towns across Kenya.
Jambojet Acting Head of Sales and Marketing Cynthia Otoro noted that more Kenyans are now embracing local travel with the campaign helping to discover new travel destinations.
“We are proud to be part of the tourism and travel ecosystem as we are able to provide and give access to the hotels, tour operators, and other stakeholders involved in creating memorable travel experiences,” said Otoro.
The campaign is set to hold activation drives in Nyeri and Mombasa among others.
