National Carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) launched flights from Juba in South Sudan to Khartoum in Sudan from December 10.
Persons flying between the two capitals will use an Embraer 190 and will see KQ upscale its flights from 10 weekly from the current 7 flights from Juba and 3 times weekly to Khartoum.
Coming when East African region is recovering from the pandemic challenges, the flight expansion is set to boost regional trade, movement of persons as well as movement of aid.
The new service is part of KQ’s long-term efforts to grow and improve connectivity across Africa to increase movement of people and intra-African trade in the spirit of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“Kenya Airways is steadfast on creating free flows of trade and tourism across Africa and in other key markets because we believe our wide network and reliable services will aid in opening up opportunities across the region. The move comes as the region continues to enhance economic cooperation to drive sustainable growth across a range of sectors, in addition to boosting business between African nations,” said Kenya Airways CEO, Allan Kilavuka.
