The Kenya Airports Authority has announced it will auction 73 aircraft cutting four major airports in the country.

The uncollected aircraft lie at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport, Wilson Airport and Lokichogio Airport.

Planes for Africa, Jetlink, Skyward, Fly540, Somali Air Force, Pan African Airways, Prestige Aviation and Eagle Aviation are just a few of the entities whose aircraft will be auctioned.

KAA said the abandoned aircraft have congested the airports, impeding the seamless running of daily activities at the airports. Apart from posing a security threat, the planes are also said to have accumulated parking fees and the companies are yet to pay up.

Parties interested in bidding are free to view the aircraft during normal working hours from Wednesday to November 16, 2021.

The auction at JKIA and Wilson Airport will happen on November 17, 2021, and on November 9, 2021, the auction will take place at Moi International Airport in Mombasa while in Lokichogio Airport the auction will take place on November 22, 2021.

Interested persons will be required to pay a Sh100,000 deposit per item on the auction, which will be forfeited if the balance of the auction is not paid within 24 hours.

All items purchased from the auction will be paid for and collected within a week from the day of the auction and will start accruing storage fees of Sh10,000 per day until they are collected.

Any item that will remain uncollected within a fortnight will be forfeited to KAA.
