OPPO has set its sights on redefining the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in smartphones, unveiling an ambitious AI strategy during the OPPO AI Tech Summit at MWC2025.

The company aims to double its AI user base to 100 million by 2025 while rolling out system-wide AI enhancements that blend innovation with security.

Billy Zhang, OPPO’s President of Overseas Marketing, Sales and Services, emphasised that AI’s value lies in improving user experience, with smartphones serving as more than just a platform for AI features.

“When it comes to AI, the user experience is ultimately all that matters,” Zhang said.

“Smartphones are not just a vehicle for AI – they are the engines that power the best possible AI experiences."

Zhang also disclosed that OPPO is driving in-house innovation and open collaboration with industry partners to bring our users these unparalleled AI experiences.

Expanding AI capabilities through Google partnership

As AI evolves from a feature-level tool to a core system-wide function, OPPO is reinforcing its collaboration with Google to deliver more integrated and secure AI experiences.

Google Gemini, the AI model at the heart of this partnership, will soon interact seamlessly with OPPO’s native apps, including Notes, Calendar, and Clock.

Current OPPO AI Phones already support Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemini 1.5 Flash, with work underway to bring Gemini 2.0 to future devices.

Matt Waldbusser, Managing Director for Global Solution and Consumer AI at Google Cloud, highlighted the significance of this collaboration.

“We are excited to collaborate with OPPO to shape the future of mobile AI by bringing together Google technologies with OPPO’s exceptional hardware and software,” he said.

“Through our extensive partnership spanning apps, AI models and cloud solutions, we are unlocking immense potential to redefine the mobile AI experience.”

To ensure AI-driven features do not compromise user security, OPPO is implementing Private Computing Cloud (PCC), incorporating Google Cloud’s Confidential Computing technology.

Features such as AI Recording Summary, AI Search, AI Studio, and AI Call Summary will be integrated with OPPO PCC later this year.

AI research fuels next-gen features

Beyond software, OPPO is investing heavily in AI hardware and research to optimise performance.

The company is focusing on three pillars—AI Productivity, AI Creativity, and AI Imaging—to develop features that enhance everyday experiences.

These efforts extend to partnerships with leading chip manufacturers to improve AI processing efficiency.

Will Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Business Group, said MediaTek’s work with OPPO is unlocking new AI possibilities in multiple areas, including imaging, gaming, and connectivity.

“The partnership between MediaTek and OPPO is set to unlock new opportunities in AI,” Chen said.

“From AI-enhanced photography to next-generation gaming experiences, from intelligent security solutions to seamless device connectivity, the possibilities are limitless.”

To support this evolution, OPPO has integrated AI-driven optimisations such as LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation), Parallel Decoding Solution, and MoE (Mixture of Experts) to boost on-device intelligence while maintaining efficiency.

At the same time, a comprehensive security framework ensures data protection across both device and cloud environments.

Pushing AI to more users, faster

With a growing appetite for AI-driven solutions, OPPO is ramping up its rollout of new AI features, promising at least one major AI update per month.

The OPPO Find N5 will soon debut AI Search alongside deeper integration with Google Gemini.

Future updates will also introduce AI Call Translator for real-time multilingual conversations and AI VoiceScribe for voice-based summaries across calls, meetings, and online learning sessions.

Spanish football legend David Villa was among those who explored OPPO’s AI innovations during the event.

The company noted that Villa is keen on discovering how AI can enhance his daily life and professional engagements.

Alongside OPPO’s AI Tech Summit, its latest AI-powered smartphones—including the Find N5, Reno13 series, and Find X8 series—were showcased at MWC2025 by industry leaders such as Google, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.

With a focus on cutting-edge research, security, and real-world applications, OPPO reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the future of AI-driven mobile technology.
