HMD, the company that has been manufacturing Nokia phones since 2016, has rebranded to Human Mobile Devices.
With the rebranding, the mobile technology company promises more innovative, affordable and repairable devices that address pressing challenges like e-waste and digital fatigue.
HMD Global Vice President for AMEA region, Sanmeet Singh Kochhar, said HMD Global will focus on innovation, sustainability and collaboration to transform mobile technology.
“Our dedication transcends mere device creation; it's about shaping a future where technology is universally accessible, environmentally responsible, and embodies repairability and durability,” indicated Kochhar.

The Finnish mobile phone manufacturer has attributed the profitability it realized in 2023 to its dynamic leadership, strategic focus, and a commitment to cost-effectiveness.
HMD has also revealed that it has streamlined the screen repair process, to usher in the 'FIY' (Fix it Yourself) movement hence reducing phone separation due to damaged screens.
The company says it will soon unveil a smartphone platform for innovation and invited developers and businesses to explore its envisioned “a future of human-centric innovation.”
Through its open innovation, HMD seeks to enable users to customize their devices based on their needs, be it extending the battery life or integrating medical equipment.
The firm says Nokia phones will continue to be its key offerings but is plans to reintroduce an iconic phone this summer as well as a diverse lineup of new brands throughout the year.
“In our seven-year journey, collaboration and support have driven our success, and we're poised to achieve even more with the new HMD,” said HMD Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO, Jean-Francois Baril.
He added: “Through a multi-brand strategy, we aspire to be a catalyst for positive and profitable change, crafting original devices, reviving Nokia phones, and collaborating with global partners.”
