Huawei Technologies has announced its plan to recruit top-tier global talent to support its innovation strategy and its goal of building a greener, more intelligent world.
In a statement from its Kenya Office, the company's Rotating Chairman, Ken Hu, emphasized that the quality of its workforce is inextricably linked to its focus on innovation.
To achieve the ambitious target of tackling current and future global challenges, Huawei aims to attract world-class talent from all over the world.
"For us to effectively tackle the prevailing and future global challenges, we need to attract world-class talent and work together to push the limits of science and technology," Hu said.
As part of the Top Minds Recruitment program, finalists will be selected from participating nations, including Kenya.

Huawei has invited applications from candidates regardless of their origin or educational background, as long as they have a vision for the future and believe in their ability to achieve it.
The company offers a platform for world-class challenges and all the necessary resources to explore the unknown.
“We don’t mind where you’re from, where you graduated, or what you studied. As long as you have a dream for the future and believe you can make it happen, we want you to come and join us,” he added.

Huawei is collaborating with various stakeholders and local universities in the rollout of the program, which includes digital skills development programs to enhance ICT talent, skills training and transfer, and job creation in the ICT sector.
The initiative has received praise from Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Wainaina, who believes that it will contribute to building an innovation-driven economy in the country.
"By supporting university students with these practical sessions, we are not only supporting the government achieve its Vision 2030 but also building the capacity among youth to complement academia in to steer the country’s talent in the right direction," Wainaina said.
Huawei's commitment to innovation is evident in its 2021 revenue of $99.8 billion.
The company has made innovation a core part of its DNA, with a strategy of reinvesting at least 10 per cent of its annual revenue back into research and development.
In 2022, Huawei invested 22 per cent, making it the world's second-highest investor in R&D according to the 2021 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.
Huawei sees Africa as a major player in its talent program, following the rollout of the Leading E-ICT Africa Program (LEAP) in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This program aims to advance the ICT skills of more than 100,000 people across the region within three years. Huawei has helped advance the ICT skills of over 80,000 people in the region over the past two decades.
Huawei is an employer of choice in the region, with its subsidiaries in nine Sub-Saharan African countries earning the Top Employer seal in 2021.
Huawei Southern Africa President, Leo Chen, sees the talent program as a way to cultivate more youth leaders in ICT who can explore more possibilities for themselves, their families, community, and ultimately their nations.
“Through the programme, we strive to cultivate more youth leaders in ICT, who can explore more possibilities for themselves, their families, community and ultimately their nations,” Chen said.
