So, is it worth the Sh50,000 price tag?
Initial Verdict
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G comes with premium quality and is a well-designed handset, makes quite a statement, easy to hold and is a reasonable device for most Reno Series lovers.
Its performance is excellent and the cameras are also versatile making the pricing evenhanded for users who are looking for a good performer in that price race.
The Facts
OPPO went all out on the design of the Reno8 T 5G and gave it a premium and compact feel, moving away from the look the traditional Reno Series has donned over the past few years.
My Sunrise Gold device has a shimmering finish at the back that tinsels when light shines on it completing the premium feel and this is added to the smartphone’s well-polished rails.
The Reno8 T 5G’s curved 6.7-inch AMOLED display gives it a whole different feel making the photos and videos you take with it visually appealing, a plus for content producers like me.
Its maiden 108MP Portrait Camera that features a 40x Microlens takes some pretty impressive images and the device’s 32MP Selfie Camera is also not too bad in good light.
The photos the Reno8 T 5G takes have rich vivid details, with those taken during the day giving you a dynamic range of options allowing you to take full resolution 108MP photos.
The new device is also not too bad at night but could have done with some improvement to ensure the videos and photographs taken in dim light capture more details on the subject.
The Night mode is also impressive and I am addicted to it since I like taking night shots, with the Microlens giving the user a fun opportunity to try taking some highly detailed shots.
It’s a good device for users who love to take photos and videos to use on social media and those who carry out day-to-day tasks due to its dependability, but it’s not for heavy gamers.
Its stereo speaker is sufficient for regular phone operations and comes with a 200 per cent volume boost. This works for me since if I want heavier sound I can use external speakers.
In the more than one week I had the OPPO Reno8 T 5G before it as officially unveiled in Kenya, I did not experience any overheating or lag when I was multi-tasking on apps.
Reno8 T 5G’s upgraded 67W SUPERVOOCTM fast charging is very reliable added to its 4,800mAh large battery that ensures you can work on the device for almost a complete day.
The Reno 8T 5G’s in-display fingerprint sensor is mostly fast, reliable and user-friendly.
Final verdict
If you love a compact phone with a premium feel, sleek design and quality finish, then the OPPO Reno8 T 5G is the device for you for a moderate price range on a premium product.
The device comes with a myriad of features giving a mass market appeal to the novel addition to the popular Reno Series produced by the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer.
It is a worthy investment for an every-day user, who is in the market for a flexible premium device with a to-die-for design.
