TikTok will remain available in the United States for at least another 90 days following President Donald Trump’s decision to extend the sale or ban deadline.
The extension, announced on Tuesday, comes as Trump prepares to sign a new Executive Order that will give the app more time to finalise a deal.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the move, saying, “President Trump will sign an additional Executive Order this week to keep TikTok up and running.”
She added that the extension would ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.
The app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, had faced a ban in the US if it did not sell its American operations by January.

The extension marks the third time Trump has delayed the deadline since taking office this year.
Trump spoke about the likelihood of securing an agreement from China for any sale.
“We’ll probably have to get China approval. I think we’ll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it,” he said.
When asked about his legal authority to extend the deadline, he remarked, “We do.”
Congress had passed a law last year requiring TikTok to be sold or banned, and the Supreme Court upheld it in January.
Despite this, Trump has chosen to allow more time for negotiations.
ByteDance and TikTok did not immediately comment on the latest decision.
The extension allows discussions on a potential sale to continue, with American companies and investor groups still interested in acquiring the platform.
For now, TikTok’s 170 million users in the US can continue to access the app while the situation develops further.
