Beatrice Soy emerged the overall winner of the maiden Dr Peter Ndegwa and Friends Golf tournament, which was held at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi on Saturday.
Soy, who was playing off handicap 27, made exemplary swings in the encouraging weather to record remarkable 45 Stableford points, out stroking the more than 200 golfers present.
She posted 23 points on the front nine and 22 points on the back nine, and to top it up, she also managed to take home the Nearest to the Pin award in the ladies’ category.
“This is my first time winning a tournament, and I’m honored it’s the inaugural Dr Peter Ndegwa and Friends tournament. It means so much to me and inspires me to participate in more competitions,” Soy said at the awards ceremony.
She added: “My big thanks to the Safaricom CEO, and I hope this tournament becomes a regular part of our golf calendar.”

In the ladies’ category, Joan K’anjenjo emerged the victor and took home the top prize with 35 points, narrowly beating fellow club member, Florence Marangu, who posted 34 points.
In the men’s category, Benson Theuri outscored Nawfal Cockar by a single point to claim victory with 41 stableford points.
At the same time, Ishaan Gidomal, who was playing off handicap 27, took home the juniors’ title during the Dr Peter Ndegwa and Friends Golf tournament with an impressive 44 points.
Beatrice Soy and Chege Njoroge won the Longest Drive prizes, while Safaricom Chief Business Development and Strategy Officer, Michael Mutiga, won the Safaricom Staff Prize.
Millicent Mello of Railways Golf Club and Allan Kirui of Nyanza Golf Club claimed top honors in the guest category, with 37 and 36 points, respectively.
Before teeing off, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa gifted Muthaiga Golf Club caddies with sheep spreading the Christmas cheer as part of Safaricom’s ongoing Sambaza Furaha campaign.
“I am also deeply impressed by the incredible turnout and extend my gratitude to the more than 200 friends who joined us for the Dr Peter Ndegwa and Friends Golf Day tournament,” he said.
Ndegwa added: It was a wonderful moment of interaction and connection, celebrating 24 years of success as a company. Your unwavering support is the reason we have achieved so much and stand where we are today.”
