A gambler from Nakuru County has filed a suit against Betika betting company for allegedly refusing to pay him his Sh500,000 jackpot win.

David Juma says he won the half a million-shilling jackpot after he placed a bet of Sh10 on the Betika platform but the giant betting company refused to release the said cash.

In his court petition, Juma sued Betika’s trading company, Shop and Deliver Limited, while attaching the betting slips and messages of his transaction alongside the match results.

He argues that he placed the wager on the 8-game Sababisha jackpot on February 18, 2023 and got all the predictions right and was looking forward to collect the Sh500,000 he won.

Juma’s excitement was shortlived when he visited the site only to find Betika had indicated that he had failed to correctly predict one football match, which he has termed erroneous.

He told the Nakuru Small Claims Court his efforts to resolve the matter with the firm to have his cash released for him to enjoy his winnings from the wager has not born any fruit so far.

“My brother and I have made several calls to Betika and tried to reach them through social media but to no avail as there has been no response,” Juma told the court in Nakuru.

While terming Betika’s action malicious and in violation of contract, Juma said that even with his brother’s intervention the company had refused to pay hence the decision to sue.

In his suit, the bettor wants the court to order Betika to pay him his jackpot claim and also calculate the interest accumulated from February 18, 2023 among other damages included.

The matter will be heard on May 8, 2023 before Resident Magistrate Edward Otieno.
