Eliud Kipchoge, the Olympic Marathon Champion, has explained the reason for his unusual performance during the Monday Boston Marathon.

He disclosed he faced a difficult condition at the American marathon as he battled a leg injury.

Despite finishing in sixth place with his slowest ever marathon time of 2:09.23, Kipchoge remained optimistic and determined to continue competing.

Speaking after the marathon, Kipchoge revealed that he had struggled with a problem in his left leg from the 30km mark, but was determined to finish the race.

"I had a problem with my leg and it wasn’t easy to continue strong after 30km, but I felt the drive to finish the race despite the hurdle," Kipchoge revealed.

"It wasn’t the weather but my left foot that was the problem."

Despite the disappointment of his performance, Kipchoge remained philosophical, stating that "sport is about good days and bad days," and that he was already looking ahead to new challenges.

However, he also acknowledged that the outcome of Monday's race had destabilized his plans and left him unsure if he will compete in the New York Marathon on November 5.

"In sports, you win and you lose, and there is always tomorrow to set a new challenge," Kipchoge said.

Kipchoge's determination and resilience in the face of adversity were admirable, and his fans will no doubt continue to support him in his future endeavors.

Although he may have faced setbacks in this particular race, his track record as one of the greatest marathon runners of all time remains unmatched, and his legacy as a true legend of the sport is secure.
