The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has lauded Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir and Evans Chebet for winning the 126th Boston Marathon, pro division on Monday.

Raila took to his Twitter account to congratulate the Kenyan team that took part in the Boston Races.

“Another Kenyan 1-2-3! Great win by Evans Chebet, Lawrence Cherono, and Benson Kipruto in the #BostonMarathon men's race,” Raila tweeted.

“Congratulations also to Peres Jepchirchir and Mary Ngugi who won 1st and 3rd place in the women's race.”

The former Prime Minister assured the athletes that Kenya was proud of them for flying its flag high in the competitions.

“A proud nation applauds you for flying our flag high!” he said.

Chepchirchir took the women’s pro division at the Boston Marathon by storm in a dramatic duel to the homestretch against Arabel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia.

Jepchirchir clocked 2:21:01 only 4 seconds ahead of Yeshaneh and destroyed her streak of 4 wins in a marathon.

Jepchirchir recorded the third-best time in the Boston marathon history.

During an interview, she said the win meant a lot to her and was looking forward to more wins to come.

“It means a lot to me to win Boston. I know there’s more victories to come,” Jepchirchir said.

In the men’s marathon, Kenyans dominated the race taking the first, second and third positions led by their compatriot Evans Chebet who won the race in 2:06:51, some 30 seconds ahead of Lawrence Cherono who came in second to give Kenya a sweep in the pro divisions.
