Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have threatened not to honour their upcoming Football Kenya Premier League fixtures for the weekend due to non-payment of Betway Cup dues by the federation.

In a letter signed by the chairmen of the two clubs and addressed to FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, they accuse the federation of withholding money from Betway Cup sponsors meant for the two teams.

K'Ogalo beat Ingwe 4-1 in post-match penalties on 4th July in the final of the Betway Cup and were meant to receive Ksh. 2,000,000 from the sponsors of the competition in addition to representing the country in the CAF Confederation Cup. Ingwe, on the other hand, were to receive Ksh. 1,000,000 as runners up.

The teams are also accusing the federation of withholding sponsorship grants and as such have given an ultimatum of up to 4.00 pm July 30 failure to which, they will not honour their next League fixture. The teams are scheduled to meet each other in the league at Nyayo Stadium on 31st July 2021, a match that is now in jeopardy due to financial woes facing the two football giants.

In fact, Gor Mahia players boycotted training yesterday due to non-payment of salary arrears by the club, a situation that has seen their goalkeeper Gad Matthews threatening to dump the reigning Kenyan Premier League champions.
