Safaricom has rolled out an affordable YouTube bundle, priced at just Sh4 for 4GB, to enable Kenyans to follow Faith Kipyegon’s ambitious attempt at becoming the first woman in history to run a mile in under four minutes.

The race is set to take place on Thursday, at 8 pm at Stade Charléty in Paris.

The telecommunications firm revealed that the special offer is part of efforts to unite the country in support of Kipyegon, who has become a symbol of Kenyan excellence on the global stage.

The bundle, accessible by dialling *544#, will allow fans to stream the race live on YouTube using their mobile phones, tablets, or smart TVs.

Safaricom also announced plans to air the event on a big screen at Baniyas Square in Eldoret City, Archives CBD and BBS Mall - Eastleigh, providing athletics fans in Kenya’s heartland an opportunity to witness the historic challenge together.

While unveiling the bundle, the firm’s chief executive officer, Dr Peter Ndegwa, highlighted the significance of Kipyegon’s quest.

"Faith Kipyegon represents the very best of Kenya’s resilience, ambition, and world-class excellence. She aims to make history once again by becoming the first woman in the world to run a mile in under four minutes. We are proud to stand with her and rally the entire country to support her," Ndegwa stated.

Kipyegon, who currently holds world records in both the 1500m and 5000m, has previously made headlines with her stunning performances at the Florence and Paris Diamond League meetings.

A successful run in Paris would add another remarkable chapter to her storied career.

Safaricom’s association with Kipyegon began in 2023 when it awarded her Sh2 million to celebrate her double world record achievement.

The company further honoured her by projecting her image on the Kenya International Conference Centre. Last year, she became the face of the firm’s “Sisi Wote Ni Mabingwa” campaign, a national initiative aimed at celebrating and inspiring champions from across Kenya.

The company is calling on Kenyans to share messages of encouragement on social media using the hashtag #KenyaForFaith as the nation rallies behind its star athlete.

By making the event accessible to millions through its YouTube offer, Safaricom has positioned itself at the heart of a unifying moment for the country’s athletics community.
