Karen Country Club was the scene of a fiercely contested leg of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series on Saturday, June 14, 2025, where 260 players, including 13 juniors, battled for top honours.
The standout performance came from Gilbert Maina, who carded a 74 gross off handicap 4 to claim the overall title.
The ladies’ competition produced a milestone for Koki Muia. She posted a gross score of 81 to secure her first win in the series after several attempts.
Reflecting on her victory, she said, “I had the best day on the course today. The weather was great, I had supportive teammates, and everything just came together. This is my third time playing in the NCBA Series and my first win. I’m really looking forward to the finale.”
Muia also expressed her hope to emulate her clubmate Sarah Nyareru, who triumphed at Karen last year before going on to win the finale at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The Division One category saw Peter Marandu (handicap 11) emerge as the winner with 40 points.
In Division Two, Betty Gacheru (handicap 16) topped the ladies’ standings with 42 points, while Cyllus Onyango (handicap 14) won the men’s section on countback after scoring 41 points.
Division Three honours went to Kenneth Muraguri (handicap 26), who also posted 41 points to win on countback.
The junior title went to Nathan Gikemi (handicap 24), who finished with 39 points. In the staff category, Apolo Asol (handicap 26) took top honours on countback with 37 points.
The guest prize was claimed by Mwangi Kiragu, who also returned 37 points.
Among the special awards, Miriam Njoroge won Nearest to the Pin for the ladies, while Collins Were claimed it for the men.
The Longest Drive prizes were awarded to Pettie Ndolo for the ladies and Mike Njogu for the men.
Commenting on the day’s proceedings and the group’s support for golf, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora said, “We had two tournaments going on for the NCBA Series qualifiers one at Karen Country Club and the other at Uganda Golf Club and in total we had 460 golfers on the course. we made a big move by working with several partners to start supporting professional working with the Professional Golfers of Kenya. We are committing more money to aid in the development of golf further.”
The series now proceeds to Ruiru Sports Club for its 15th leg, scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025.
