During the France vs Germany match in the Euro 2020 opener on Tuesday that ended 1-0, Antonio Rudiger is said to have bitten Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

In a video seen by swalanyeti.co.ke, the bizarre moment happened when Pogba moved around the pitch drifting the ball and passing across lanes before bumping into Rudiger who stretched his hands around Pogba’s chest, leant closer and took a nibble.

It might be a sniff or a lick or maybe, as well seen through videos online, Rudiger bite Pogba on the back.

Pogba tried to seek help from the match official who were not ready to take a second look at the incident.

From Pogba’s facial expression, he was not willing to take a no for an answer as he felt there was clear intent behind the defender’s actions.

Addressing the issue on ITV, Pogba said that the incident was nothing big as “he nibbled a little bit and I felt it”.

“Me and Toni have known each other for a long time and I just want to play football.

“He has not received any card and I don’t want him suspended because of that situation. We hugged at the end and it is over.”

This is not the first biting incident to have happened in football.

In 2014, during World Cup in Brazil, Luis Suarez was hit with a four-month ban by FIFA for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini.

That was his third punishment following the same offence.
