Mats Hummels' own goal gave France three points after winning 1-0 against their rival Germany in their opening Euro 2020 Group F match at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.


France took the lead at exactly 20th after Lucas Hernandez fire cross was netted in by defender Hummels as he tried to clear it.


It was when Germany woke when their striker, Serge Gnabry went closest to sending a looping volley over the bar thanks to a fire cross from Robin Gosens. 


Nonetheless, France, with full support from Karim Benzema who struck the post through midfielder Adrien Rabiot.


France also saw two goals ruled out as offside in the second half after superb play and attacking momentum from Kylian Mbappe and the other one from a counterattack and finesse shot from Benzema.


Under the pressure to score a goal, Germany missed multiple scoring chances. Gosens from the left sent a cool pass over to Ilkay Gundogan who powered the shot wide off the post.


 France embarked on a possession game but remained keen on the break with Mbappe and Karim Benzema who both did an impressive job in attacking.


Didier Deschamps’ also complained of not given a penalty in the 78th minute Hummels sharply slide tackled putting Mbappe down inside the box.


Germany has to up their game to secure a place in the knockout stages during the next match against holders Portugal on Saturday while France takes Hungary.
