Italy took a comfortable win of 3–0 against Turkey on Friday in the opening match of Euro 2020 in Group A at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
Roberto Mancini’s side was totally dominant in the match and after a fairly dull first half, Turkey needs a helping hand in the 53rd from Merih Demiral.
It was when the defender turned a protagonist in the match with a historic own goal giving Italy a lead.
At exactly the 66th minutes Italy doubled the win after Ciro Immobile pounced on a rebound making his first-ever goal in the tournament for his country.
Lorenzo Insigne made it 3-0 in the 79th minute after getting an opening from the defenders after a horrible error from Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and finessed a shot at the top left corner.
Italy burst in jubilation after the 3-0 win as it was history the team scoring over three goals in a match at the Euros in their 39th attempt.
“It was important to start well here in Rome, and it is a joy for us and for all the Italians,” Mancini told Rai.
“It was a great evening, I hope there will be many more, but there are still six to go before Wembley”.
Immobile took the player of the match title after his goal and assist. He was so determined that they will win even after a tough first half with him cooperating with his fellow players.
The Lazio striker while speaking at an interview said, “Seeing the fans celebrate after all this time was wonderful, we finally got to come together after so long of this damned virus."
“Unfortunately, we regularly hit their brick wall, especially as we’re not that good in the air. Turkey was more tired after the break, and after the goal, they had to open up some spaces, so that’s when our quality emerged.
“Scoring a goal on the Euros debut in my stadium, it doesn’t get better.” He added.
