An officer from the General Service Unit (GSU) attached to the office of Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his wife died on Tuesday evening in a suspected murder suicide case.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said an initial probe pointed at GSU officer Hudson Wakise shooting and killing his wife Pauline Wakasa, before shooting himself dead.

According to Mutyambai, the incident involving the couple may have been a result of a row.

“Wakise, who had been off duty since April 1 reported back to work on April 6 but left at 3pm and went home near the GSU camp in Ruaraka,” the IG said.

CS Matiang’i expressed his sadness with the tragic incident in a post on his social media pages on Wednesday.

“They were both young and vibrant police officers, with all their brilliant future ahead of them, now tragically ended in their shocking deaths. A very rude awakening to possible psychosocial challenges amongst some of our young officers that we have no choice but to now pay greater attention to,” he posted.
