Authorities have confiscated over 500 counterfeit brake pads valued at Sh937,500 following an enforcement operation by the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) in Nairobi’s Baba Dogo area.
The raid, conducted at Impala Downtown HQ Ltd, was prompted by a public tip-off and uncovered fake automotive parts imitating a leading trademark in the motor vehicle industry.
ACA Inspector Omedo Mark, who led the operation, warned of the grave dangers posed by counterfeit spare parts.
“The sale and distribution of these counterfeit products not only endanger public safety but also undermine legitimate trade and infringe on intellectual property rights,” Omedo stated.
According to the ACA, the counterfeit brake pads, though sold at lower prices, pose a significant threat to motorists as their inferior quality increases the risk of accidents.

“Counterfeit brake pads are not only unsafe but can lead to severe accidents and fatalities due to their substandard quality,” Omedo added.
The Authority is now working with other regulatory bodies and industry players to trace the source of the counterfeit goods and prevent their distribution.
It has also intensified public awareness campaigns to educate consumers on the risks of using fake automotive parts and the importance of purchasing from authorised dealers.
Mark urged consumers to be cautious and report any suspected counterfeit products to the ACA, emphasising the need to buy only from licensed distributors.
