Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Wednesday distributed water pipes, fittings, and community equipment to residents of Mwea, as part of ongoing county projects.

Waiguru issued tents, chairs, and catering utensils to 38 self-help and welfare groups in Tebere and Thiba wards, stating that the items would help members during social events by reducing the cost of hiring.

Additionally, she oversaw the distribution of 177 high-density UPVC water pipes and fittings for the Kiamanyeki water project, which is expected to serve 5,000 households in Thiba.

Another 173 pipes and fittings were allocated to the Nguka Witeithie, Kamugambo, Gicando, Kihuruko, and Kanjema water projects, meant to benefit 12,800 households in Tebere.

Waiguru stated that these initiatives were part of efforts to support socio-economic development across the county.

She also outlined other projects in the region, including the upgrade of Kimbimbi Hospital from Level 3 to Level 4, which she said is 80 per cent complete and expected to open by the end of the financial year. Construction of Ndindiruku Dispensary is also ongoing.

In education, she said that Sh6.5 million has been allocated for bursaries in Tebere and Sh6.3 million in Thiba.

She added that Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) infrastructure has been improved and that free school uniforms and learning materials have been provided.

She further mentioned that the county had supported agriculture through the mechanisation of rice farming, funding for agricultural groups, and subsidised fertiliser access.

According to Waiguru research on controlling snails in rice plantations through catfish farming is also underway.

Waiguru said that the ongoing construction of Kimbimbi market and the second phase of Wang’uru market would provide better trading spaces for farmers and traders.

She stated that the projects were aimed at long-term development across the county.
