Kenya Power has officially launched its new Sustainability Strategy, aimed at embedding sustainable business practices across the company’s operations.

This strategy provides a clear framework to mitigate environmental impacts, promote inclusivity, and ensure responsible resource utilisation, all while maintaining ethical standards in business conduct.

The company has outlined specific initiatives designed to address climate change and protect the environment.

These include encouraging the adoption of e-mobility and e-cooking technologies, enhancing clean energy sourcing, and advancing the development of eco-friendly infrastructure.

Kenya Power's Managing Director and CEO, Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, highlighted the importance of the strategy in shaping the company's future operations.

"The Sustainability Strategy will guide us to anchor our operations as a responsible corporate citizen on reliable short-term and long-term activities that will enable us to remain responsive to emerging challenges such as climate change," Siror stated.

Dr. Siror further explained that the company is committed to creating a "strong, resilient, and sustainable energy ecosystem" that serves both the environment and the communities where Kenya Power operates.

The Chairman of the Board, Joy Brenda Masinde, emphasised the crucial role of sustainable business practices in securing the company’s future.

“We aim to ensure that our pursuit of economic goals does not compromise the well-being of future generations. This alignment is not merely a strategic imperative but a moral obligation that will significantly enhance our long-term competitiveness and operational resilience,” she said.

Kenya Power's operations span the entire country, and its activities have a significant environmental and social impact.

As such, the company recognises its responsibility to ensure that its operations do not deplete natural resources or harm the communities it serves, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

The Sustainability Strategy is aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 13 on Climate Action, Goal 15 on Life on Land, Goal 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17 on Partnership for the Goals.

This bold strategy marks a significant step forward in Kenya Power's mission to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

By aligning its operations with global sustainability standards, the company aims to create a resilient energy ecosystem that benefits current and future generations.
