In a significant breakthrough in the recent murder of Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko, police in Siaya County recovered his stolen firearm during an intense operation in Gem Wagai sub-county.
The weapon, which was robbed from Ayieko on the tragic night he was killed, may serve as a key piece of evidence as detectives work to identify his attackers and bring closure to the case.
The operation unfolded when concerned locals reported seeing two individuals—a man and a woman—handling a gun inside a Toyota Axio, registration number KDN 948B, at Wagai Trading Centre.
Officers from Wagai Police Station swiftly mobilised, signalling the driver to stop, but the suspect disregarded their orders, instead, accelerating towards Luanda and opening fire on the officers.
The situation quickly escalated into a high-speed chase, stretching through the Kagilo area until the vehicle lost control at Adder Farm and overturned on the left side of the road.

Although the driver managed to flee the scene, the female passenger was found unconscious and severely injured.
Police searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition, later confirmed to be the same firearm stolen from Ayieko on the night of his murder.
The woman was transported to a hospital in Yala but tragically passed away hours later from her injuries.
The hunt for the escaped driver intensified, leading detectives to his rented residence at Sagam Trading Centre in Kanyibwop village.
Here, police discovered and seized various items, including a jungle green sweater, military-style shorts, two pairs of desert storm jungle boots, two television sets (40” and 32”), an HP laptop, and a Rolex watch.
A second woman found at the residence was also arrested and taken in for questioning.
Detectives are continuing their investigation, with forensic teams examining the collected evidence to unravel further details of Ayieko’s death.
With the recovery of the pistol, authorities are hopeful that this significant lead may provide answers in this tragic case.
