The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has firmly rejected a recent appeal by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) to end the ongoing teacher strike.

In a letter addressed to KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori, the TSC maintained its stance that the union must immediately withdraw its work boycott in compliance with a court order issued earlier this week.

In response to the union's request, Cavin Anyour, TSC Director of Legal Labour and Industrial Relations, emphasized the importance of adhering to the court's ruling.

He argued that the strike could have a detrimental impact on the learning process and urged KUPPET to prioritize the resumption of educational activities.

Anyour further stated that the TSC has already addressed all the grievances previously raised by the union, paving the way for a new round of negotiations to discuss any remaining concerns.

"It is the Commission's position that the Union complies with the order of the court and withdraws the ongoing industrial action to enable parties to continue with the bipartite negotiations on any unresolved grievances," he said.

The TSC also highlighted the government's recent release of Sh13.5 billion to implement the second phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This allocation includes payments of teacher's salary arrears dating back to July 1, 2024.

The standoff between the TSC and KUPPET continues to raise concerns about the disruption to education in Kenya.

As both parties remain steadfast in their positions, the outcome of this dispute will have significant implications for the country's education system.
