Kericho County Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai has passed on.

Kikwai passed on while receiving treatment from Covid-19 related complications at Siloam Hospital in Kericho on Saturday morning.

The deputy governor had been admitted to hospital for the last two weeks and had been in the ICU before she succumbed to the deadly virus on Saturday.

Kikwai was serving her second after being elected on a ticket with Governor Kericho Paul Chepkwony in the 2013 and 2017 elections.

She served as the Managing Director of Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) under the Ministry of Finance from 2005 to 2012 before joining politics.

For her outstanding performance in investment promotion, Kikwai was awarded The Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) in 2007 by the former president Mwai Kibaki.

In the following year, she was elected the President of the African Investment Promotion Agency Network.

She was the daughter of a former Kipkelion member of parliament, William Kikwai.
