A Kenya Airways flight, KQ 670, was involved in a bird strike incident while landing at Kisumu International Airport on Thursday evening.

The incident, which occurred around 6:36 pm local time, resulted in the aircraft being temporarily immobilized on the runway.

According to a statement released by Kenya Airways, the plane landed safely despite the bird strike.

"Kenya Airways (KQ) confirms that on 30 May 2024 at around 18:36hrs, KQ 670 had a bird strike while landing at Kisumu International Airport resulting in the aircraft being temporarily stuck on the runway," the statement read in part.

"The aircraft landed safely in Kisumu, however it was not able exit the runway fully as the bird strike affected the aircraft steering components.However, the impact affected the aircraft's steering components, preventing it from fully taxiing off the runway."

The airline emphasized that all passengers and crew disembarked safely and there were no injuries reported.

Kenya Airways said it was working alongside relevant authorities to remove the aircraft from the runway and restore normal operations at the airport.

"We are working diligently with the relevant authorities to have the aircraft removed and resume normal operations," the statement said.

Passengers impacted by the incident will be provided with updated travel information and any necessary assistance.

Kenya Airways expressed their apologies for any inconvenience caused and reassured passengers that their safety and comfort remain the airline's top priority.
