The woman, who was captured in a video mercilessly beating up her child, has been arrested in Bwaise, suburb in Kampala, Uganda.
The woman, Patience Owimana, was apprehended by Kampala police at a home where she had just gotten hired to look after children, only few days earlier while on the run.
Owimana, who was convicted for attempting to murder her father, went into hiding after the video of her assaulting her son Elvin Ssebandeke in Kyazanga, Lwengo District went viral.
Criminal Investigations Directorate spokesperson Charles Twiine said she stole from her husband Charles Mawanda and fled to Luweero on learning she was wanted by police.
“She got a new job to look after children in Bwaise, Kampala. The family that didn’t do background search had hired her to look after their children at the time she was arrested,” Twiine said.

Kampala detectives say Owimana, who also threatened to kill her husband, has a criminal past and was convicted for plotting with her mother to kill her father and served jail term.
According to statistics released by the Uganda Police Force, at least 1,500 children are tortured in Uganda yearly but convictions of abusers remains as low as 45 per 1,500 cases.
