The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a series of public notices regarding road closures across the country caused by heavy overnight downpours.

Athi River-Namanga Road (A2): The main artery connecting Athi River and Namanga was closed due to flooding at the Kimalat River crossing.

While the road has since reopened, KeNHA urges motorists to proceed with caution in the area.

Thika Superhighway: A temporary closure was implemented on Thika-bound traffic at the Kahawa Sukari drift between Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University.

Thankfully, the flooding has subsided, and the road is now fully operational.

Kedong Ranch-Suswa Road: This route remains closed for the next 12 hours to allow for extensive clearing of debris and siltation caused by persistent heavy rainfall.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes like Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru (B18) Road or Kaplong-Kericho (B6) Road.

Ewaso Ngiro-Narusura Road: The Oldonyo Orasha River crossing is currently impassable due to overflowing water.

KeNHA is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the water levels recede.

Kamulu-Kangundo Road: The ongoing downpours have caused flooding at the "Athi River Bridge" section, leading to a complete closure.

Those travelling between Joska and Kamulu can utilize Joska - Koma - Kaloleni - Mua Interchange - Cabanas - Ruai - Kamulu, while the return journey can be made via Kamulu Ruai Cabanas Mua Intercharge - Kaloleni - Koma - Joska.

KeNHA prioritizes motorist safety and urges everyone to avoid using closed roads and to exercise caution in areas with potential flooding.

They are actively working to clear debris and reopen these critical transportation links as soon as possible.
