Hundreds of travellers have been stranded along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway following a massive traffic jam that lasted for hours on Friday.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) in a statement issued earlier, an incident that occurred in the section between Kijabe and Soko Mjinga caused the traffic jam.
" KeNHA alerts motorists of a traffic snarl up between Kijabe and Soko Mjinga along the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway due to an incident," KeNHA announced.
However, Swala Nyeti has gathered from sources affected by the incident across social media that a crash caused the jam.
The situation has been compounded by motorists who are overlapping in an attempt to find their way around other vehicles and continue with their journey.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority reports that the traffic situation between Kijabe and Soko Mjinga along the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway is worsening due to overlapping," the authority reported.
This is common practice with Kenyan motorists who are impatient and do now show any courtesy to other road users.
KeNHA has appealed to motorists to avoid overlapping in order to ease the jam.
In the same breath, the authority has advised motorists plying that route to consider using alternative routes.
"Motorists are advised to avoid overlapping and those planning to travel are advised to delay their journey or use the aforementioned alternative routes," KeNHA said.
