Robin Njogu, veteran journalist and the Managing Editor at Royal Media Service, is dead.

Njogu died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 complications at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

The former capital fm radio new boss lost the battle to the virus hours after leaving the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was making good recovery, coming just days after he also lost his mother and burial preparations were underway.

Among those who have mourned Njogu is ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, who remembered him as an excellent scribe who contributed heavily to the development of radio news in Kenya.

“Robin was a consummate journalist and contributed heavily to the development of radio news in the country. Sad loss for his young family, RMS and the media fraternity in the country. May God comfort his family,” wrote Mucheru.

Lands CS Farida Karoney, who was formerly the Chief Operations Officer (COO) at RMS, has also mourned Njogu.

 

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua mourned the late Njogu as a fellow journalist and personal friend.

“Heartbroken to lose a friend and fellow journalist Robin Njogu. The other day when I visited him at the hospital he was cheerful and getting better. He sent me this photo recently of the days when he used to attend my Govt. Spokesperson briefings as reporter. What a sad night...,” Mutua posted.

Many journalists have also mourned Njogu for the part he played in moulding them and leaving an impact in the media industry as one of the best editors to ever grace the industry.

Njogu was on January 30, 2019 appointed to the 15-member Task Force on the Improvement of Government Information and Public Communications launched by the Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru.
