In a welcome announcement for Kenya's Muslim community, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared Wednesday a public holiday to mark the celebration of Idd-ul-Fitr.

This earlier-than-anticipated holiday comes as the sighting of the crescent moon signifies the beginning of the month of Shawwal, traditionally marking the end of Ramadan.

The official gazette notice states, "It is notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 10th April, 2024 shall be a Public Holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr."

With the public holiday declared, Kenyans can expect a joyous celebration filled with prayers, feasting, and family gatherings.

Many will also take the opportunity to donate to charity and extend goodwill to those less fortunate.

Idd-ul-Fitr is a time for reflection, gratitude, and expressing compassion towards others.
