In a significant move aimed at bolstering Kenya's urban infrastructure, the government of Kenya has finalized a crucial agreement with France for the enhancement of the Nairobi Commuter Railway.

The railway network, pivotal in serving Nairobi and its environs, is set to undergo a comprehensive modernization effort, thanks to a substantial financial package.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, also holding the portfolio of Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, made the announcement during a press briefing on Saturday.

The agreement entails a substantial loan amounting to 138.7 million U.S. dollars, facilitating the ambitious undertaking to revamp the metropolitan railway line.

"Delighted to receive H.E. Stéphane Séjourné, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic on his inaugural visit to Africa during his official trip to Kenya. "We agreed to expedite the implementation of the project co-financed by both countries to construct 8 sports complexes, using the Agora Model, in various parts of our country, to enhance sports infrastructure and facilitate co-hosting of AFCON in 2027," he stated.
