The wife of a police officer based at the Runda Police Station was found to have reportedly committed suicide in their house early Monday morning.

Police Constable Fred Mwela Chebai reported that he returned to his house at Gigiri police lines at 3am and found his wife Damaris Chepkirui hanging on the sitting room window grill.

According to Chebai, his 27-year-old wife had committed suicide using a shawl tied around her neck and his wife was already dead by the time he arrived at the scene from work.

The woman passed on while holding her seven-month old baby and she exhibited no visible injuries on her body.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and what might have led to her to take her own life.

Her body was later removed from scene and taken to Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary to await a postmortem examination.
