A Nairobi magistrate's court on Thursday summoned Omar Lali and six others to be questioned on occurrences surrounding the death of Keroche Breweries heiress Tecra Muigai.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul said Lali is a person of interest as he had been unfavorably mentioned by 11 witnesses who testified during an inquest into Tecra’s death.

Lawyer representing Tecra’s family, Elisha Ongoya, said Lali needed to be compelled to testify as a key witness after he was adversely mentioned in the death of his then girlfriend.

He also argued that the six co-witnesses are in possession of information which might be crucial in unraveling what led to the death of Tecra on May 2, 2020.

Lali is yet to appear in court and is not represented in the inquest that kicked off Monday.

The six, who have reportedly refused to travel to Nairobi are Lali’s brothers Kasai, Ali Bakari and Abdul Akini, Ahmed Ali Salim, Mohammed Salim Muhanji and Yahya Salim Mohamed.

Some witnesses are reported to have been present when Tecra fell inside a house that she had rented and shared with Lali at Shella in Lamu County.

Tecra’s older brother James Karanja shocked the inquest at Milimani Court after claiming that he had been informed that Lali used witchcraft to lure women.

He told the inquest he was dazed when he met Lali for the first time in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on September 2019 as he was not the type of man that Tecra usually dated.

Karanja said his sister’s then boyfriend mostly kept to himself while they were in Dar and they were both overprotective of each other but their relationship was unusual to him.
