The Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of former Mandera South MP Adan Haji Ali Sheikh, who faces charges of embezzling Sh51 million during his tenure as Tourism CEC Member in Kwale County.

The elusive suspect believed to be in hiding, is accused of exploiting his position for personal gain through his hotel, Lotfa Resort Diani Limited.

Sheikh allegedly used his wife and son as directors of the hotel to inflate costs for accommodation and conference services provided to the County Government.

This blatant conflict of interest, coupled with his failure to disclose his private stake, constitutes a clear violation of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission's (EACC) recommendation to charge Sheikh in December 2023.

Since then, authorities have been on the hunt for the absconding former MP.

Despite his absence, the legal wheels continue to turn.

The charge sheet has been officially registered in the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court, mandating Sheikh's appearance on February 13th, 2024.

Whether he chooses to surrender or prolongs his fugitive status remains to be seen.

This case underscores the ongoing battle against corruption in Kenya, where public officials are increasingly held accountable for their actions.

As the search for Sheikh continues, one wonders if he will face the music or gamble on evading justice indefinitely. Only time will tell.
