The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a 7-day cumulative rainfall forecast, indicating a continued spell of precipitation across various parts of the country from the 15th to the 21st of January 2024.

The forecast encompasses the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, Central and Southern Rift Valley, Central Highlands (including Nairobi City County), Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coastal region.

Additionally, intermittent rainfall is predicted for parts of the Northwest and Northeast during this period.

A significant aspect of the forecast is the potential occurrence of isolated storms and heavy rainfall, particularly concentrated in the South Rift Valley, Southeast Lowlands, Central Highlands, and the South Coast.

"Rainfall is likely to continue over several parts of the country including Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, Central and Southern Rift Valley, Central Highlands including Nairobi City County, Southeastern Lowlands and the Coastal region," the Met Department forecast stated.

The forecast has raised concerns among residents and local authorities, with areas prone to flooding urged to implement precautionary measures.

Specifically, the South Rift Valley, Southeast Lowlands, Central Highlands, and South Coast are cautioned to brace for the possibility of isolated storms that may lead to localized flooding. In response to the forecast, the Meteorological Department emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and updates on weather conditions.

Local farmers, however, view the forecast with optimism, as the expected rainfall is anticipated to positively impact agricultural activities in the affected regions.

Timely and consistent rainfall could significantly contribute to crop growth and water reservoir replenishment.
