The Government has increased the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) from 35 per cent to 40 per cent with the signing into law of The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (Amendment) Bill by President William Ruto on Monday.

This legislative move aims to ensure a more robust support system for education and environmental initiatives across the country.

The augmented CDF allocation is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering the seamless continuation and completion of education for students.

Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah emphasized the significance of this increase, stating, "This will check drop-outs, boost enrollment and further the Government’s efforts to increase literacy."

Beyond educational support, the amended law addresses critical issues, particularly in drought-stricken areas, by allocating additional funds for school feeding programs.

This strategic enhancement in the CDF underscores the government's commitment to mitigating challenges and sustaining educational progress in diverse contexts.

Underlining the commitment to environmental sustainability, the amended legislation elevates the CDF allocation for environmental activities from two per cent to five per cent.

This increase signifies a concerted effort to tackle climate crises and support initiatives aimed at environmental conservation.

The amended law also introduces a three per cent allocation for constituencies’ digital hubs.

Recognized as essential platforms for empowering the youth with skills that enhance their employability, these digital hubs align with the government's broader agenda of fostering technological literacy and innovation.

Simultaneously, President Ruto assented to the National Lottery Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 69 of 2023), ushering in the establishment of the National Lottery Board.

This board will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of the newly formed National Lottery, focusing primarily on preventing fraud and ensuring transparency.

Sponsored by Ichungw’ah, the National Lottery Bill aims to utilize the proceeds from the lottery to fund social development in the country.
