Kenya's national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has confirmed that one of its flights, KQ100, was diverted to Stansted Airport in London on Thursday, due to a potential security threat.

The airline, in a statement, said that it received an alert of the potential threat at around 10:30 a.m. and immediately carried out a thorough risk assessment in conjunction with the security authorities of the Kenyan and UK governments.

"KQ management in conjunction with the security authorities of the Government of Kenya and the United Kingdom carried out a thorough risk assessment of the threat," the statement read.

"The crew onboard were briefed, and all safety and security precautions were taken to ensure the safety and security of our crew and passengers on board."

According to the national carrier's statement, KQ100 landed safely at Stansted Airport at around 12:30 p.m. for security clearance by UK government security personnel.

"The aircraft landed safely at the Stansted airport, London for security clearance by U.K government security personnel," the airline said.

"The safety and security of our crew and customers is our number one priority."

However, KQ has not disclosed any further information about the nature of the potential threat or the identity of the passengers on board KQ100.
